The building of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is located on Xingye Road in Shanghai's French Concession. It is a two-storey building in the traditional shikumen style, which combines elements of Chinese and Western architecture.
It was here that thirteen delegates met to found the Communist Party of China on July 23, 1921. The congress was interrupted by a police raid and finished on a boat on Lake Nanhu in Zhejiang province.Today, the building serves as a museum that preserves historical documents and artifacts related to the founding of the Communist Party. The interior has been reconstructed from period photographs and includes, for example, a replica of the meeting room with original furniture. The museum is an important site of Chinese history and is visited by thousands of people each year. It is located in the heart of modern Shanghai, close to the famous Xintiandi district, which is now the city's tourist and cultural centre.
