The Ultraviolet L 80 handheld UV lamp is a portable device designed to detect luminescence on postage stamps, banknotes and phone cards. It uses long-wave ultraviolet radiation with maximum efficiency at a wavelength of 366 nm, which is the standard commonly used for fluorescence verification in the field of banknote, card and philately collecting.

The Luminescence Luminometer is a lightweight, high power, ultraviolet light source for the detection of luminescence.

The lamp is equipped with a 4 W fluorescent lamp. Power is provided by four AA batteries (marked UM3), which are not included. The design of the lamp allows for easy carrying and use in the field and in the home environment without the need to connect to the mains.

The long-wave spectrum makes the lamp suitable for verifying UV security features and luminescence on stamps and banknotes from many countries where fluorescent markings are used. These countries include, for example:

• Canada - luminescent markings introduced in 1967

• Mexico - has used fluorescent printing since the 1980s

• Norway - UV marking common since 1970

• France - fluorescent paints used especially in modern emissions

• Hong Kong - UV elements in banknotes and stamps

• People's Republic of China - fluorescent inks and security features

• Russia - modern banknotes and stamps with UV features

• UK - so-called Machin definitives commonly use luminescence after 1993

This UV lamp is intended for long-wave UV light only and is not suitable for the detection of phosphorescent elements (short-wave UV). For working with phosphorescent materials, lamps with a wavelength range of 254-280 nm must be used.
