The area around Blansko is inseparably connected with the Moravian Karst. Originally, people called it Moravian Switzerland for its poetic character and especially at the turn of the 19th and 20th century it became a popular place for visitors not only from Brno, but also from further afield. The term Moravian Switzerland defines a strip of territory stretching from Sloup to Líšeň in Brno. We can find here everything that nature has to offer. Whether karst formations, natural monuments, or various species of flora and fauna found here, in this beautiful place in southern Moravia. It is also the site of much research, whether by speleologists or historians, which has allowed us to look into the interior of the karst caves and to learn about the life of the first human ancestors in this territory.
The book by the postcard collector Milan Sýkora and photographer Milan Šustr entitled "Moravian Switzerland on old postcards" does not only offer nature, but also works created by human activity. In addition to the town of Blansko, Adamov or Bílovice nad Svitavou, we can also find other human settlements in Moravian Switzerland. On old postcards we can admire the New Castle or the castle in Rájec, pilgrimage sites in Vranov, Křtiny and Sloup, ironworks or the railway line with originally ten tunnels winding through the valley along the Svitava River from Obřany in Brno to Rájec nad Svitavou.
