The Bohumín-Košice railway, also known as the Košice-Bohumín railway (KBD), was one of the key railway lines that connected Moravia and Silesia with Slovakia and contributed significantly to the development of industry in the area. The line was built in the mid-19th century, specifically between 1869 and 1872, to connect the Austro-Hungarian industrial zone around Ostrava and Silesia with the important commercial centre of Košice in eastern Slovakia. The connection provided rapid transport of raw materials such as coal and iron ore, which were essential for the development of metallurgy and other industries in the area.
The Košice-Bohumín railway was also crucial for passenger transport, becoming an important link between Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and Slovakia. Throughout its history, the line has undergone several modernisations that have increased its capacity and safety, and it remains one of the most important routes in the Central European railway network to this day.
