The Fountain of Apollo, located in the magnificent gardens of the Palace of Versailles, is one of the most striking symbols of the French Baroque. This monumental fountain depicts the god Apollo emerging from the waters on his golden chariot drawn by four mighty horses. The scene symbolises Apollo's triumphant sunrise - a metaphor for King Louis XIV, known as the Sun King, who commissioned this magnificent garden.
This masterpiece was created by sculptor Jean-Baptiste Tuby, who used marble and lead for his work, then covered in gold to capture the splendour and glory of royal power. The details of the sculptures - from the muscular bodies of the horses to the folds of Apollo's robe - reveal the incredible precision and artistic talent of the time.
For art and history lovers, Fountain of Apollo is not only an aesthetic treat, but also a reminder of the power and ambition of the French monarchy.
