Jean Moulin (1899-1943) was a key figure in the French Resistance during World War II. A high-ranking civil servant, he refused to collaborate with the Nazis and joined the Resistance after the occupation of France. In 1941 he fled to London, where he was commissioned by General Charles de Gaulle to unite the various resistance groups in France.
On his return to France in 1942, Moulin played a major role in the formation of the National Council of Resistance (CNR), which united the main resistance organizations. In June 1943, however, he was betrayed, arrested by the Gestapo and brutally tortured. He died while being transported to Germany, but his exact last days remain unclear. His legacy as a symbol of resistance to the occupation is still seen as a key moment in French history.
