Eugène Vaillé was an important French postal historian who made a major contribution to the documentation and study of the history of the postal service. Born in 1875, he devoted his professional life to researching the development of postal systems, their technology and their importance in modern society.
Vaillé is best known as the founder of the French Postal Museum (Musée de La Poste), which officially opened in Paris in 1946. Its main objective was to collect and preserve historical artifacts related to the postal service, including postage stamps, letter post, old mailboxes and courier equipment.
In addition to his museum work, Vaillé has devoted himself to extensive study of postal history. He published numerous books and scholarly studies that remain important sources for historians and philatelists alike. Among his most important works is "Histoire générale des Postes françaises", which traces in detail the development of the French post office from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
His work has contributed to a deeper understanding of the role of the postal service not only in France, but also in a broader international context. After his death in 1959, his legacy remains a key resource for the study of postal history and the development of communications technology.
