The Douglas C-54 Skymaster was one of the most important transport aircraft of World War II and the post-war period. This four-engine low-wing aircraft was developed from the civilian DC-4 model and was primarily used for military transport of cargo and personnel. The "Globester" version was modified for long intercontinental flights, making it a key machine for strategic airlift.
The C-54 was the first U.S. Air Force aircraft to have a pressurized cabin, allowing for higher-level flights and improving crew and passenger comfort. During the Berlin Airlift (1948-1949), it became one of the main aircraft used to resupply besieged West Berlin.
Technically, the aircraft was powered by four Pratt & Whitney R-2000 Twin Wasp piston engines, which gave it a top speed of around 450 km/h and a range of over 6,000 km. Thanks to its robust design and reliability, it remained in service long after the end of World War II, with some machines being converted for civilian use and serving in airlines around the world.
The Douglas C-54 "Globester" model faithfully depicts this historically significant aircraft, including detailed cockpit, landing gear and authentic paintwork consistent with period examples.
